WHAT HAPPENED?
While much of the attention in an award-winning documentary focuses on the exploits of a record-breaking men’s side in North Wales, season two did deliver an insight into how the women’s squad are getting on. They also savoured promotion in 2022-23, with star striker Rosie Hughes leading the way.

WHAT ALLEN SAID
Wrexham Women are chasing down more success after stepping up into the Adran Premier, with their exploits being followed closely once again. Allen has told , with ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ set to return to screens around the world at some point in 2024: “The cameras have been filming us throughout the season. It is so intense and once one game is over, we’re immediately focused on the next one. So, it will be really nice for the girls to watch it back and see how much they have come together as a team. A way of treasuring that first season in the Welsh Prem and how amazing their achievement has been.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney formed part of promotion celebrations last year, and are now familiar faces around SToK Racecourse and The Rock, but Allen admits that life in the spotlight is still taking some getting used to. She added: “I’m quite an awkward person so being in front (of the camera) for me is still a bit, ‘Whooah’. But then there are others, such as Rosie, who absolutely love it. She shines in front of the camera.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM WOMEN?
Wrexham Women sit third in the Adran Premier – the top tier of women’s football in Wales – and are entering the phase two play-offs. Another title is out of reach, but the ambition from here is to finish above Swansea and eventually challenge professional outfit Cardiff City.
