Christian Eriksen has spoken of his pride in being able to turn his career around at Manchester United after suffering a heart attack in 2021.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Eriksen bid farewell to the Red Devils after a three-year stint at Old Trafford by scoring in his final game against Aston Villa and one month later he reflected on his time at the club in an interview with in-house channel .

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    The midfielder collapsed on the pitch during Denmark's game against Finland at the rescheduled European Championship and although he made a full recovery he was subsequently released by Inter. He took the first steps towards rebuilding his career on loan at Brentford before completing a permanent move to United in the summer of 2022.

  • WHAT ERIKSEN SAID

    "I think I've proven that I'm the footballer, not the guy who just had a heart attack. I'm the footballer, and yeah, that's something I'm really proud of," Eriksen said. "To prove a point that people out there who are who have a tough time – you can turn things around. I would say even the darkest times there'll be something positive with time and it'll be the same here with this club. Time will heal a lot of stuff, and then that's how we come back and bounce back."

    Eriksen won Carabao Cup in 2023 and FA Cup in 2024 with United while also reaching the 2023 FA Cup final and last season's Europa League final. He said: "There's been a lot of good memories, a lot of special games, a lot of special people I've met in my time here. Two trophies and, in between that, a few finals as well. I've really enjoyed my time and a huge thank you to the club, to the fans, to my team-mates. I've really felt at home from day one, me and my family, so it's going to be a special place in my heart, leaving here."
